One of my favourite authors C.S. Lewis once said “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me”. I completely agree Mr. Lewis! Growing up in my family, cups of tea were a way of life and thank goodness they still are. Every family catch up includes a round of cups of tea, and my parents had the genius idea of making all of us five kids’ tea the exact same – white with one. Since becoming a mum, something that helps me mentally is having a cup of tea each day – often delivered to me in bed from my darling husband before he leaves for work in the morning.
Here’s some things I really love about tea:
It’s universal: Whenever I’ve travelled, tea is available in all forms and flavours and there’s very little room for error with a cup of tea. England certainly know how to have a cup of tea, beautifully paired alongside some scones with jam and cream (the picture on this post is from when I was in St Ives in England, by the seaside enjoying a cream tea – perfect!). In China, a cup of soothing Jasmine tea was delightful following a flavour filled meal. After a day out and about in snow in New Zealand, coming back home to a cup of tea was just so comforting. Anywhere you go, tea is a treat.
Its variety: English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Lemon & Ginger, Peppermint, Melbourne Breakfast, French Earl Grey, Yorkshire, Chai, Russian Caravan, Australian Afternoon, Bengal Spice…I could go on and on, however I’m sure you’ve gathered that there are so many wonderful flavours of tea to enjoy. Some flavours remind me of different seasons of my life, such as Jasmine tea reminding me of my trip to China, and Bengal Spice tea reminds me of a Bible study I hosted during university because all of us girls fell in love with that tea.
Its enjoyment by many: My favourite TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender (the Nickelodeon animated series) includes an amazing character, Uncle Iroh, who just adores tea and aspires to open up a tea shop in his retirement. Throughout the show, the audience witnesses his love of tea and he reminds me of how many people in my own life love tea and how many precious conversations I’ve shared with others over a lovely cup of tea.
So there’s my little shoutout to something I truly enjoy: tea.
1 Corinthians 10:31 – So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Love, Gracie.
