Hot Air Ballooning: 100% Recommend

So in late April, I had my birthday and as a present my sweet Chris gifted me with an experience to go hot air ballooning. He had previously asked me what I’d like for my birthday and I’d dropped hints about doing something together, rather than a physical gift. It was all booked to coincide with our time away, and oh my goodness what an amazing experience it was.

Watching the sun rise over the horizon.

An early start to our Saturday morning it was, waking up at 3:45am, leaving by 4:15am to make it to The Farm at Byron Bay, in norther New South Wales (NSW), Australia, for our departure. I’m really thankful it’s autumn and not summer here for multiple reasons regarding this experience: a later sunrise means a later start comparatively to summer, and the weather is much cooler. So if you decide to do this (a decision I support completely!), autumn is a great time to go! There were two hot air balloons being launched, with approximately 20 people in ours and 16 in the other. I’m glad there was another balloon as it made for lovely photos.

I loved capturing the other balloon in motion.

The crew and whole team were amazing. Chris and I thought our pilot looked and sounded exactly like Rafael Nadal, which I’m not upset about. Our hot air balloon ascended right in time to watch the sun rise across the horizon in all of its beautiful colours. I didn’t keep track of our exact duration in the air, but I’d say it was at least an hour. This is what I loved most about it: it was so peaceful. Everyone was so calm and relaxed, enjoying the experience. Not once was I afraid of the height we were at, but enjoyed it.

This was just as we were rising, and seeing the colours of the sun contrasted against the forest was beautiful.
I love this photo! Definitely going to print it out and stick it in my journal.
The view we had was spectacular.

At the end of our flight, the landing was super smooth and everyone helped pack up the balloon (this was so nice to see, all these strangers helping out – there was no one who didn’t help). Then we were bused back to The Farm at Byron Bay and enjoyed a lovely breakfast (this was included in the package). Chris and I were able to spend some time walking around, enjoying the sunshine and bought some delicious baked goods (an almond croissant and a Portuguese tart) from the bakery.

Enjoying strolling around The Farm.

So if you haven’t already gathered, I certainly recommend adding hot air ballooning to your list of things to do. I hope you have the best time!

Proverbs 4:18 – The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

Love, Gracie.
