No matter what you feel worried or anxious about, God doesn’t want you to stay in that state. He walks through it all with us and is our perfect Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Declaring these verses over your worries and anxiousness in prayer reminds us of who we are in God and the victory we have over the difficulties we face.
Oh what peace we often forfeit
Oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Lyrics from one of my favourite hymns ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’.
Here is a list of some of my favourite verses to speak out and pray over worries:
Philippians 4:6-7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I love this verse so much! I’ve clung to the truth and promise of this verse multiple times, and have known the peace of God that guards my heart, even if the situation doesn’t change because God steadies me through whatever happens.
1 Peter 5:7 – Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
In case you’ve never been told this before, you are loved and cherished and God cares about you. How precious and simple are the truths of this verse that God cares about us, and He wants to take the load off of us and carry it Himself. Prayer is simply talking to God, like you would a friend. He already knows what’s happening and wants to help us out.
Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
I’ll do another post on the beautiful ‘do not be afraid’ verses in the Bible, because they are powerful and frequent! When those worries try to creep their way in, declare over them, I am strengthened and helped, held by and belong to God Who is here with me right now.
Psalm 34:19 – The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time.
This verse reminds me that difficulties aren’t a punishment from God, but a test from God. God wants us to pass the test and deliver us from the difficulties.
Psalm 56:3-4 – When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
I gave my heart to Jesus when I was 9 years old, and so have been following along in step with Him for a long time now. This verse continually reminds me Who is in charge, and certainly who isn’t. Psalm 56 was written by King David, one of the most prominent biblical figures in the Bible, who conquered giants and won battles. One of the things I admire most about David is how real he is, despite his great achievements. He struggled and needed these truths just as much as we do, and I can only imagine him praying these over his life and all the challenges he faced.
We can do the same.
Psalm 94:18-19 – When I said, “My foot is slipping,” Your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy.
I only really noticed this verse two years ago, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and it speaks so much goodness, doesn’t it? Right in the middle of uncertainty and change during the pandemic, I was reminded of God’s unfailing love, His constant support, and the joy of His presence.
There are so many more beautiful passages of Scripture that remind us God’s goodness and faithfulness to us in our times of worry and anxiousness. Jesus told His disciples not to worry (John 14:1), which shows that worry isn’t just a 21st century problem – it’s been around for a long time. And thankfully, God knows what we need best and is perfectly willing and able to help us out. Whatever is happening friend, you are not overcome and God is on your side. I pray these verses speak life into whatever you’re going through.
Love, Gracie
